Grant details

Y. Eva Tan Conservation Reporting Fellowship

The 2026 Y. Eva Tan English-language program supports up to 11 fellows in the Mongabay Global Bureau from June 1 through November 30.

The program will provide opportunities for journalists from biodiversity hotspots in tropical countries to report on critical environmental issues, gaining valuable training, experience and credibility that will help them advance their careers in journalism and communications. Ultimately, the goal is for fellows to join the growing global network as regular Mongabay contributors.

Early-career journalists selected are expected to commit to engaging an estimated 10 hours a week and to produce an average of one story per month over the course of the fellowship to be published on Mongabay’s website. Work is remote — fellows must be flexible and have access to the internet to plan assignments accordingly with their editor.

This fellowship is intended to provide opportunities for aspiring journalists from low- to upper-middle-income tropical countries who have had little previous experience in or access to international training, education or publishing.
